Get to know your professors

Teacher talking to student

Hello future Illini! Although the semester flew by, finals week is always long. Fortunately, I'm pretty much prepared for all of my finals, since I spend so much time in office hours with my professors and teaching assistants (TAs). Office hours, in my opinion, is undoubtedly the best way to be successful in a class.

The obvious reason is that there's plentiful opportunity to ask questions, get help on homework assignments, and gather knowledge on what is coming up on exams. Both professors and TAs alike are very friendly in their office hours, since they know the students in office hours are the ones that care about performing well in the class.

The other and equally important reason is that students can establish a one-on-one relationship with their professors and TAs during office hours. Some of these lecture halls house hundreds of students, so it's very beneficial to stop by office hours to not only get individual help but to let your professor know what you think of the class. And who knows—that relationship could open up letters of recommendation, research opportunities, and career possibilities in the future!
