Mom's weekend fun

Katherine Boncher

While being away at school, we all get a little homesick. So what’s the perfect solution? Mom’s Weekend! We all miss her hugs and home cooking, so Mom’s Weekend is the perfect opportunity to catch up with your mom, enjoy the warm weather, and show off our beautiful campus to her. Here are some ideas for things to do with your mom when she comes to visit:

  1. Show your mom the Quad. One of our main attractions at the University of Illinois is the Quad. Your mom will love to see the spring trees as well as the historic buildings where you have class. You can also show off the beautiful Union and all the services it offers, as well as the library with our impressive book collection.
  2. Head to the Arboretum for a picnic. The Arboretum is one of the hidden treasures on campus. Mom’s Weekend is the perfect time to take a walk with your mom, enjoy the beautiful flowers, and fully embrace spring. To top it all off, packing a picnic lunch for you and your mom would be a great way to enjoy the experience!
  3. Take your mom to your favorite campus restaurant. The University of Illinois has many wonderful restaurants for you to try! If you have a signature spot, make sure to take your mom there and show off the good food that we have to offer. Some ideas for restaurants are: Flat Top, Papa Del’s, Biaggi’s, Timpone’s, The Bread Company, Mia Za’s, KoFusion, Desthil, and so much more!
  4. Enjoy a show with your mom. There are many fun activities that the University and other extracurricular activities plan for Mom’s Weekend. Many of these include, musicals, concerts, and other shows. Make sure to check out what events are occurring during Mom’s Weekend so you two can enjoy all of the musical talent that this University has to offer!

With all of these fun things to do with your mom, you two are sure to have a foolproof weekend, and enjoy a little taste of home in Champaign.

The College of Liberal Arts & Sciences at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign offers more than 70 majors and provides a world-class interdisciplinary education that prepares students for lives of impact. Learn more about LAS.
