Join us in the School of Earth, Society, and Environment

Changes in the Earth's environment, societies, and economy will define the 21st century. You can help make it a better place.

UIUC's College of Liberal Arts & Sciences offers many majors for students wanting to make an impact by studying our planet:

  • As a student in atmospheric sciences, you'll enjoy engaging classes in state-of-the-art laboratories and access computers built for weather analysis and simulation.
  • In geology, you'll study how the Earth works, both today and in the past. Geologists use sophisticated computer models to study climate change, how rivers change over time, and even how rocks form in our bodies!
  • As a geography & geographic information science (GGIS) major, you'll learn how to use advanced geospatial tools to explore relationships between people, places, and environments.
  • Develop sustainability skills in policy, people and society, communication, natural science, business, or technology—in earth, society, and environmental sustainability, you get to choose your specialty.

LAS has helped me find a tight-knit community

"We have many different students and studies united by our commitment to learning, discovery, and curiosity. LAS might feel big, but with so many people interested in so many things, there is always a tight-knit community to be a part of."
