Twenty-one faculty members are named new executive officers

Twenty one faculty members will take new leadership roles this fall.

Twenty-one faculty members have accepted new leadership positions in departments and other academic units within the College of LAS for the 2024-25 academic year.

Executive officers lead each of the almost 70 departments, programs, schools, centers, and other academic units within the College of LAS.

Included among the new executive officers is a new associate dean who has been appointed starting with the 2024-25 academic year. Associate deans help manage operations across the college.

The new executive officer appointments are as follows: 

Toby Beauchamp, chair, Department of Gender & Women's Studies

Adrian Burgos, chair, Department of History

Eric Calderwood, director, Center for South Asian & Middle Eastern Studies

Jose Capino, interim head, Department of Asian American Studies

Yuguo Chen, interim chair, Department of Statistics

Angela De Fulvio, director, Program in Arms Control & Domestic and International Security

Katy Heath, head, Department of Plant Biology

Jessica Greenberg, acting director, European Union Center

Waïl Hassan, head, Department of Comparative & World Literature

Feng Liang, interim director, Program of Actuarial and Risk Management Sciences (began in  January)

Robert Morrissey, associate dean for technology and online learning

Justine Murison, head, Department of English

Andrew Orta, acting director, Center for Latin American & Caribbean Studies

Lindsay Russell, director, Center for Writing Studies

Dan Shao, head, Department of East Asian Languages & Cultures (began in January)

Ryan Shosted, director, Program in Translation & Interpreting Studies

Gisela Sin, acting director, Illinois Global Institute

Carol Symes, director, Program in Medieval Studies (began in January)

Ariana Traill, head, Department of Classics

Matthew Winters, director, Center for East Asian & Pacific Studies

Min Zhan, director, Women & Gender in Global Perspectives Program
