At Illinois Global Review (IGR), that’s only part of the story. IGR is more than just a campus publication. It’s a platform where global affairs meet student perspectives, and where the next generation of journalists and analysts sharpen their skills while amplifying important conversations.

So, what makes IGR special? Let’s take you behind the scenes!

The mission: Global perspectives, local voices

IGR was founded with a mission: to foster a better understanding of international issues through the lens of students. We cover everything from geopolitical developments to cultural insights and human rights stories. Our writers don’t just report on the world, they engage with it, offering thoughtful analysis and personal reflections that make global events feel relevant and immediate.

The team: Passion meets professionalism

Our team is a mix of political science enthusiasts, aspiring journalists, and students from diverse disciplines who share a common curiosity about the world. Editors work closely with writers to ensure every article is well-researched, balanced, and compelling. The social media team, led by Sydney Tate, brings our work to life online, creating engaging content that keeps our followers informed and involved.

The process: From idea to publication

Every week, our contributors think of article ideas during their brainstorming sessions. This is where creativity thrives, whether it’s exploring the implications of a recent election, diving into cultural phenomena, or shedding light on underreported issues. Once an idea is cemented, writers conduct research, interview experts when possible, and craft pieces that offer fresh perspectives.

For IGR members, the publication is more than just a line on a resume—instead, it’s a launchpad. Writers develop skills in research, analysis, and storytelling. Editors hone their leadership and communication abilities. And our social media presence ensures that our work reaches an audience beyond campus, sparking discussions and awareness about global affairs.

If you’re passionate about global issues and have a story to tell, IGR welcomes you. Whether you’re a writer or editor, there’s a place for you here! Together, we’ll continue to inform, inspire, and ignite conversations that matter.
