Information for instructors
In an effort to assist students, especially those from underrepresented backgrounds, in their success on our campus, we elicit feedback directly from their instructors and this feedback gives us valuable information on how we can better support them. These efforts are critical for ensuring that students from a wide range of underrepresented backgrounds are retained here at Illinois at the same levels as other students. The sooner we have the information, the sooner we can provide the customized support.
The instructor feedback tool we use is called the Online Student Assessment. From the feedback instructors submit, we generate a progress report for the student which forms the basis for a confidential advising session that covers his/her academic challenges, opportunities, progress, and/or concerns this semester. In compliance with the Student Code, Article 3 Part 1 Section 3-101, the information instructors provide will be shared only with the respective student and the staff who work directly with the student in this initiative.
- The OSA application will be accessible beginning the Monday after the fall full semester drop date. Login is required using your Active Directory username and password. The application generally opens the Monday after the drop deadline and closes the last day of classes.
- If an instructor has a teaching assistant who is responsible for grade evaluation and does not have access to OSA, please contact Cathy Edgar or Carla Buchanan to request access.
- Changes to the course/instructor assignments should be sent to OSA.
- Technical problems with the OSA application should be submitted to ATLAS.
- We are happy to have a more extensive conversation about one of your students or respond to other concerns or questions regarding the process. Please contact us and a member of our staff will follow up with you.
Information for academic advisors
Academic advisors may encourage faculty within your departments to complete the assessment for students. When necessary, please assure your faculty that information pertaining to their students’ academic performance is addressed in FERPA: “…allows schools to disclose those records, without consent, to the following parties or under the following conditions (34 CFR § 99.31): School officials with legitimate educational interest…”
Online Student Success System
We remain convinced that an integral part of our student success is the partnership you share with them as well as with our office. With that in mind, your assistance is greatly needed to help facilitate the retention, academic progress, and timely graduation of students in the LAS Access and Achievement Program.
The Online Student Success System is designed to discover students within your major who may require early intervention and prevention. These students may be ones identified as being at risk for academic, personal, social, or financial success. If you are an academic partner or instructional faculty and should you meet with an LAS AAP student meeting these or similar criteria, please report your concern via our online form.
You will need to log into the our form using your Active Directory username and password. This form will provide the basis for informed and confidential conversations between staff and students concerning their academic challenges, opportunities, progress, and/or concerns this semester. In compliance with the Student Code, Article 3 Part 6 Section 3-603 (c) (2) (A), the information you provide will be shared only with the respective student and professional staff in AAP. If you are unable to access the system, please contact our office. You may also contact the Access and Achievement Program from 8:30 a.m.-4:40 p.m. Monday-Friday at (217) 333-7717.
If you are unsure whether or not your student is also an LAS AAP student, please check Banner. You may do so by going to General Students, then go to additional student information. Afterward, type in the student's UIN and the current term; click next block and under attribute code, you will see either 1070 PAP (Traditional), 1074 PAP (Honors), 1045 EOP, or 1085 AAP Undeclared.
