Web services in LAS
Let the LAS Web Team help you create or enhance your online presence. Whether you need to create a website for your department or unit, post videos from student interviews, or publish the work of your research grant, the LAS Web Team can provide consultation, tools, and training.
Website strategy
The College of LAS has invested significantly in the staff and technology needed to effectively harness websites across our LAS academic enterprise. Our approach to this work is guided by a strategy that enables the college to produce effective websites at scale that are on brand, accessible, mobile compliant, and easy for units to maintain. View our website strategy (NetID login required).
Websites and web hosting
There are a variety of options to host your website using LAS or campus tools. Find the best tool for your needs below or contact las-web@illinois.edu for help.
LAS has created a framework specifically designed to host LAS department and unit websites. This approach utilizes a Content Management System (CMS) that allows department staff to make changes to the site directly in a web browser; no special software required.
The LAS framework is
- Free of charge to LAS departments
- Hosted and maintained by the LAS Web Team
- Follows current brand standards set by the University
- Fully accessible and responsive
To find out how you can utilize the LAS Framework for your unit or department, contact
las-web@illinois.edu.

For smaller websites, faculty, staff, and/or students can build their own webpages on publish.illinois.edu. Users can create a publish.illinois.edu domain, select pre-designed campus-approved website templates, and begin publishing content to their website almost instantaneously. This service is free to anyone with a valid NetID.
To get started, visit publish.illinois.edu or contact las-web@illinois.edu for help.
cPanel is the campus solution to web hosting. While it offers more flexibility than publish.illinois, it also requires more advanced knowledge of web configuration. cPanel offers one-click installers for Wordpress, Drupal, jQuery, PHP, Ruby, and more. For university websites, you can install the Illinois Web Theme for either Wordpress or Drupal, or you can use the Toolkit components to build an instance of the Illinois theme using HTML. cPanel also allows for more flexibility in creating custom (non-university branded) themes. cPanel is available to current members of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign with an @illinois.edu email.
To get started, visit cPanel or contact las-web@illinois.edu for help.
Training and documentation
LAS offers in-person (virtual) training sessions on how to use the LAS Framework, in addition to offering special breakout sessions on best practices, accessibility, and more. Visit our Knowledgebase page to view video recordings of each session. To add yourself or another member of your department to our mailing list, or to suggest a topic for a breakout session, email las-web@illinois.edu.
For self-guided help with using the LAS Framework, please see our tutorials on Knowledgebase: Drupal Training.
