Waivers of general requirements

LAS requirements and regulations apply to the vast majority of student cases. Obviously, special circumstances occasionally arise which should be brought to the attention of the college or other offices. For example, students pursuing teacher certification must petition the Council on Teacher Education for any variance in professional education requirements, including general education.

If you believe that a general regulation should be waived because of special circumstances, consult LAS Student Academic Affairs and file the appropriate petition. Please be sure that the circumstances are indeed extraordinary and documentable before filing a petition. The LAS deans are authorized to entertain appeals from prior decisions, but only if you can provide new evidence or prove an objective error.
